Aviva England Athletics U15/U17 Championships – Bedford, 21/22 Aug 2010

On the 21st and 22nd of August some of our young athletes travelled to the Bedford International Stadium to compete in AAA U15/U17 Championships.

One of our youngest ‘rising stars’ Luke Cooper (U15) ran a good 800m race in 209.14 not quite his PB and didn’t make the final but what a fabulous experience for him.

Alyssia Carr, our only female competitor took part in the Sprint Hurdles she ran a time of 11.76 winning her heat and 11.78 in the final placing her 7th. Alyssia also competed in the Long Jump, jumping 4.94 placing her 7th a little short of her PB.

Taking up his new venture Jamie Higgins (U17) completed the 5000m walk in a time of 29.31.30.

Jake Armstrong competed even though he had a heavy week of rugby training leading up to the championships. He came 2nd in the Discus 51.35 and 6th in the Shot 14.05.

Gordon Benson returned to defend his England Title from 2009. He completed the 3000m in a time of 8.39.98, not nearly as fast as at Crystal Palace but beating one of the well known ‘Irish Twins’ Andrew Monaghan for first place by three seconds.
