Brass Monkey Half Marathon

York’s Brass Monkey half marathon is usally a chance for road runners to start the year with a fast time on a flat course. Unless, of course, it happens to be ridiculously windy, that is. This was the case on Sunday, though it didn’t stop Wallsend’s Ethiopian Yared Hagos running a seriously swift 66:42 (eagle-eyed road race fans may remember him racing for Bradford Airedale last year and thrashing everyone at one of the Esholt 5k races). Darran Bilton was 8th in 1:14:12, first M45 by miles (well, just over 1 actually, judging by the times) and not far behind former members Martin Sanders and Paul Marchant, whilst Leon Foster was 16th in 1:16:45. Mark Williams ran 1:27:20 to be 8th M50 and Chris Corcoran finished 1 place ahead of Sian Davies in exactly the same gun time, although as Sian’s chip time was faster, she may be entitled to claim a moral victory! Meanwhile, Simon Hill made a return to racing in 1:50:01. Well done to all for braving the conditions!
