British League Super 8 Cup – York 23rd July 2011

04/08/2011 – Steve Linsell
A small team represented Leeds in this one athlete per event and limited events format.
Naana Adusei WAS the Women’s team, running both sprints and finishing 2nd in both with 13.2s in the 100m and a season’s best 26.7s in the 200m.

The Men’s team was huge in comparison, with 5 hardy souls donning the blue & Amber.
Aaron Lowrey was 3rd in the 1500m with 4.22.4 and the now M40 Trevor Wilks, dipped under 10 minutes in the 3000m, finishing 5th in 9.52.3.
In the field, Matt Allison was disappointed with 36.90m in the discus, but it was still good enough for 3rd place. His javelin throw of 54.63m was a season’s best and also won the event.
After discussion between athletes and officials, the high jump beds were deemed to be unsafe for use.Personally, I would have been prepared to jump, but Glasgow’s Ray Bobrownicki jumps 7ft plus and would have risked injury on mats that have seen better days.
Performance of the evening had to be Matt Barton in the triple jump, winning easily with a season’s best 15.18m.just short of his pb and backed it up with other 15m plus jumps.

Final score – Sheffield 218 Bingley 159 York 99 Glasgow 92 Chesterfield 66 Leeds City 58
