Christmas Racing – Chevin Chase and Ribble Valley 10k

Racing doesn’t stop for Christmas, which at the very least helps to run off those second helpings of turkey and Christmas pud. On Boxing Day there was the annual Chevin Chase on Otley Chevin, regular stomping ground of Greg Hull who finished 6th behind local triathlon international Jonny Brownlee. Fellow Guiseley-dweller and Chevin-regular Pete Branney finished 16th.

On the 27th it was the Ribble Valley 10k in Clitheroe, a fast course which always features a fine depth of field and usually manages to muck up Athletics Weekly’s already-published end-of-year rankings by providing several fast times and PBs. One of these was Simon Deakin who had an impressive run in 7th, running 29:49, his fastest time since 2007. Joe Townsend made his 10k debut in 31:44 for 42nd, just 2 places ahead of Mike Burrett, who ran 32:01. Not far behind, Fergus Meade ran 32:32 for 54th, closely followed by Alan Buckley with 32:39. In 75th, Alex Davy ran 33:45 whilst Trevor Clough finished in 37:46 and 169th, good enough to secure 3rd M50. Meanwhile, Kirsten Scobie ran 42:29 in 340th place out of almost 900 runners. Hopefully there were some mince pies left as reward for all these efforts!
