England Athletics U15/U17 Indoor Combined Events Championships – EIS Sheffield 5-6 Mar 2011

In the U15 girls event, Melissa Fletcher was just outside her best time in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.73s. The high jump produced a pb with 1.41m, followed by 6.31m in the shot putt. After two no-jumps,it must have been a relief to get one in with her last attempt and 4.35m was a pretty good effort under pressure. The 800m in 2.48.71 was an indoor best and so was her total score of 2445 for 12th place overall and 6th in the Northern Championships.

Three U17 men represented the club and again there were a host of pbs. In the 60m, Matthew Campleman started off with 7.59s for his first of the day. He then added 10cm to his previous best in the Long Jump with 6.13m. A huge improvement of 50cm followed in the shot, with a best putt of 10.45m and a similarly impressive 1.71m in the high, being an 11cm pb. The 60m hurdles was his only non-pb discipline, but only just, with a 9.06s clocking. A pole vault of 2.65m, a 25cm improvement, was yet another best and a first ever 1000m had to be a pb (3.15.13). A final score of 3896 was another pb, 3rd in the North and an excellent 6th overall.

Connor Morley had an 8.40s run in the 60m, a 5.31m long jump, then 8.68m in the shot. A 1.77m pb in the high jump, was only betterd by two other competitors, who jumped 1.80m on their last attempts. Spurred on by that performance, Connor ran another pb in the 60m hurdles, clocking 9.50s and follwed it with another in the pole vault, where he scaled 2.35m. A run of 3.34.39 for the 1000m added up to a pb score of 3117 for 4th place in the North and 12th overall.

Andrew Russell ran a 60m pb of 8.24s, then long jumped 4.91m for another one. In the shot, a putt of 8.10m was also a pb and a 10cm improvement followed in the high jump with 1.65m, every height cleared at the first attempt. In the 60m hurdles, Andrew lopped 4 10ths off his previous best with 10.15s. The highlight of his performance has to be his 3.55m clearance in the pole vault, which added a staggering 45cm to his best and was only bettered by one other athlete. Another pb in the 1000m followed with 3.38.56 and a combined total of 3079 was another personal best, for 5th place in the North and 13th overall.
