European Masters Indoor Championships Gent, Belgium – 16-20 Mar 2011

08/04/2011 – Steve Linsell
Three of the clubs more senior athletes flew the flag for GB in these championships, with Tony Bowman (M75) being the stand-out performer, winning two gold and two silver medals. In the 60m, after a very casual stroll through his heat, Tony ran 8.99s in the final for second place, his best time at the distance since 2008. The 60m hurdles was a straight final and as European record holder, he duly obliged with 10.84s, just outside the record which he set at the UK Masters indoor championships in February. His second gold came in the 200m where he ran exactly the same time in his heat and the final (31.11s).The second silver was in the 400m where Tony ran 77.72s.
Tony also won a bronze as part of the 4 x 200m M75 relay.
Hazel Barker (W50) finished in 11th place in the shot with a best of 9.64m, in a competition won with a putt of over 15m. In the high jump, she was 6th with 1.30m and was disappointed to miss out on the medals, as they were all won with 1.35m jumps, a height she would normally expect to clear.

In the M45 high jump, Steve Linsell just missed the medals on countback, but jumped a 6cm seasons best with 1.81m. Considering he was carrying a few injuries and had done little recent training, there were no complaints.
