Leeds City Athletic Club – Track & Field Coordination

Dear All

I have seem some excellent feedback from our Young Athletes meeting at the weekend so it seems a good time to update every body on the situation the club currently has in relation to co-ordinating our track and field activities.

The role of track and field co-ordinator was not filled at our AGM last year and more recently Ros Evenden, who was our Officials Co-ordinator, has resigned from both her post on the Committee and from the club due to her personal circumstances.

The majority of the organisation for the meeting on Sunday was done by Pat Childs along side the many other tasks she does in the club including Membership Secretary and Team Manager for the girls teams. Ros did help out with sorting some of the officials but the club urgently needs to put a structure in place to manage the track and field side of the club otherwise we will struggle to host any fixtures in the future.

To do this we need to put together a sub committee of 5 or more people. The key tasks for this sub committee would be as follows:

* Liaising with the Leagues to agree dates for any Home matches we are allocated and then make the necessary arrangements to stage the fixtures;

* Organise officials for our meetings and to develop our pool of club officials so that we can cover away matches and potentially host our own open meetings;

* Support team managers by setting selection policies, arranging transport and corresponding with the leagues etc;

* Organising club open meetings both indoor and outdoor.

There is plenty of resource out there that we can tap into including funding from the Leeds Athletics Network and England Athletics and we have excellent facilities at JCCS to use but we need to get better organised to take advantage of these resources.

So please can I ask that you consider coming forward to help. The planning for the Track & Field season starts in October when the Leagues stage their AGM’s and fixtures are agreed for the following summer so I would have the sub committee in place by September.
