NORTHERN ATHLETICS INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – EIS SHEFFIELD 15-16/01/2011

A sprinkling of the club’s athletes flew the flag for Leeds City at the Northern Indoor Championships.
In the U15 girls age group,Alyssia Carr & Melissa Fletcher took on the 60m Hurdles,placing 2nd and 4th respectively in their heat and clocking times of 9.74s & 10.13s.
Alyssia claimed bronze in the final,with an improved time of 9.65s,whilst Melissa ran 10.25s for 6th place.
U15 boys,Jacob Fincham-Dukes & Louie Hurley tackled three events each,both running the 60m sprint (Jacob 8.41s) & (Louie 8.92s) for 4th and 8th in the same heat.
In a strong Long Jump field,Jacob was 9th with 4.87m and Louie 11th jumping 4.45m.Jacob picked up a bronze medal in the 60m Hurdles,running a 9.69s pb,whilst Louie’s third event produced a best Shot Putt of 6.91m for 6th place.
The U17 mens 60m heats saw Elliot Hurley running within a hundredth of a second of his pb,when second in his heat clocking 7.51s and shaving the same amount off that pb in the semi-final,running 7.49s for 4th place.
Matthew Campleman also knocked a hundredth off his pb (7.73s) when finishing 3rd in his heat and ran 7.74s in his semi-final for 8th place.Connor Morley was 6th in his heat,equalling his pb with 8.29s and Andrew Russell ran a new best of 8.32 finishing 5th in the last heat.
In the 60m Hurdles,Matthew ran a pb with 9.07s to win his heat,Connor and Andrew also running pbs in 6th & 7th places,with 9.73s & 10.55s.The final produced another pb for Matthew,when clocking 8.93s,but in a strong field,it was good enough for 6th place only,but you can’t do much better than two pbs !
The Pole Vault featured Andrew,who scaled new heights,with 3.10m for 5th place.
In the Shot, Matthew & Connor were 5th & 7th,Matthew with another pb and just shy of the 10m mark with 9.95m,Connor,not far off his best,with 9.24m.
The High Jump produced a bronze medal and new pb of 1.75m for Connor,whilst Andrew equalled his best of 1.55m in 5th place.
Elliott and Matthew both Long Jumped,finishing 6th & 7th with 5.90m & 5.70 respectively.
In the same age group,Luke Cooper was 5th in the 800m running 2.09.42.
Katy Marchant claimed a silver medal in the Under 20 womens Shot,with a best putt of 11.02m,not far behind her best and a bronze in the 60m Hurdles,clocking 8.97s,again close to her best.Fran Coldwell was 8th in the same race with a time of 11.34s.
The Club’s solitary Under 20 mens competitor was Sam Bucknall,who was 3rd in his 800m heat with 1.57.31 and 5th in the final,running 2.00.20.
In the Senior womens events,Naana Udusei contested the 60m,running 8.24s for 6th place in her heat,not too far off her best.
The 60m Hurdles final featured Jenny Lumley,who ran 9.81s for 6th place,improving her recent season’s best for the event.The Shot produced a putt very close to Jenny’s best,a mere cm behind it with 10.84m and 8th place.Amy Marchant finished 4th with 11.77m,not far off her best and Alice Simpson 5th with 11.66m,well below her best of almost 13.50m.
Both Jenny & Amy contested a very close High Jump competition,Jenny winning on countback from Amy,both clearing 1.65m and from the evidence of Hannah Evenden’s photographs,Jenny was extremely close to 1.70m.
Matt Barton opened his season in the Senior mens Triple Jump and even though suffering mid-jump cramp,produced a winning leap of 14.75m.
The 1500m final featured Dale Worton and Michael Salter.Dale was 6th with 4.00.99 and Michael 7th running 4.08.25.
