Northern Cross Country Relay Championships – Graves Park Sheffield 011011

Double Success for our senior men and ladies especially in such warm conditions!

It was a bit of a different team who managed to maintain their crown for another year and this time the ladies too were crowned champions with an exceptionally large margin.

Chris Birchall (10.25) ran well bringing the team into 5th position when he handed over to veteran Martin Roscoe (10.38) who moved up a place before handing over to Gordon Benson, 17 years making his debut in this competition. Gordon (10.09) stormed into the lead giving Martin Gostling (10.29) a good start on the anchor leg. Martin managed to keep ahead of the closing Stockport team bringing Leeds City home five seconds clear.

It was a completely different race for our wonderful ladies, Alex Gostling (12.00) handing over to Clair Duck (12.08) in 3rd place, Clair managing to fight her way ahead of a dominant Holmfirth team and giving our very own Susan Partridge the lead. Susan then sailed ahead making every stride count and finished a good 2 minutes clear of the rest of the field in a time of 11.53 that being the second fastest of the race.

The Men’s ‘B’ Team came a marvellous 5th. Leon Foster (11.02) took the first leg, handing over to Dale Warton (10.27) who had a very good race, Sam Bucknall (10.48) took the third leg, handing over to Martin Hilton (10.42) bringing the team home.

We had an incomplete ‘C’ Team of Ben Dyson (11.43) Elliot Todd (11.02) who at 17 also made his debut with the Senior Men, and Peter Steel (11.23)
