UK Women’s League Div 3 Match 2 – Crawley 2nd July 2011

Whilst the Men’s team are in meltdown, the ladies are really buzzing and go from strength to strength, filling all the events except Pole vault and B string steeple chase.
After leading for most of the afternoon, Leeds City Women’s team finished a magnificent 2nd place, just four points behind the home club Crawley and with a home match at Cleckheaton to finish with, have a chance if results are kind, of being promoted.
In the sprints, Kadeena Cox was 4th in the A 100m in 12.7s and also 4th in the A 200m with 25.7s.
Naana Adusei was 3rd in the B 100m with 13.0s and 3rd again in the B 200m in 27.3s.
Team Manager Sheryl Punter was 3rd in the A 400m, just outside her season’s best with 60.1s, Marie Dobson winning the B in 60.5s
In the 800m, Katy Parry ran one of her fastest times of the season, finishing 6th in 2.21.7 and in the B, Sheryl equalled her pb, taking maximum points with 2.18.7.
Emily Birchall was 6th in the A 1500m, running a pb with 4.57.9, as did Jennie Guard in the B, finishing 4th in 5.07.5.
Jennie also tackled the 2000m steeple chase for the first time, clocking 8.06.1 to take 2nd place in the A race.
In the 3000m, Emily ran her fastest race for a couple of years, with a big season’s best of 10.20.9 in 6th place and in the B race, Jennie ran another pb, finishing 2nd in 10.37.7.
Marie Dobson was a very good 2nd in the A 400m hurdles with 66.1s and in the B, Fran Coldwell ran a fine season’s best of 71.2s also in 2nd place.
Katy Marchant was an easy winner of the A 100m hurdles, in for her, a leisurely 15.3s, sister Amy taking a comfortable 2nd in the B race with 16.1s.
With Alice and Adanna not in the team, Carrie Simpson and Stacey Evenden filled their shoes admirably in the hammer.
Carrie threw 31.55m for 4th place in the A, going 4th on both the Senior and U20 all time lists, in what appears to be her first competitive throw and Stacey taking the B with 31.38m.
In the discus, Carrie threw 26.35m for 5th place in the A and Joanne Westerman backed her up with 16.50m and 5th in the B.
Joanne was 6th in the A javelin with 16.68 and Stacey, 5th in the B with 16.05m.
In the shot, Katy M was 2nd in the A, with a very good putt of 11.06m and Carrie was 3rd in the B with 9.62m.
Amy found an outdoor season’s best of 5.11m good enough for 2nd place in the A long jump and in the B, Fran was 3rd with 4.82m
Kadeena, on her first attempt at the triple jump recorded 9.87m, 5th place in the A and in at 15th on the all time list.
In the B, Fran on her debut, jumped a fine 9.46m to win the B and go 10th on the U20 and 24th on the ‘open age’ all time list.
Katy M and Amy, took lots of points in the high jump, Katy close to her best in the A with 1.65m and 2nd place, Amy easily winning the B with 1.60m.
In an extremely close finish to the 4x100m relay, the team of Naana, Fran, Kadeena & Amy just held onto 2nd place in 51.5s.
Also in 2nd place, the quartet of Katy M, Marie, Sheryl & Katy P ran 4.04.1, the fastest run by a club Women’s team since 1990, going equal 9th on the all time list.
