UK Women’s League South Leeds, 28th July

 UK Women’s League Division 3, match 3 of 3 – South Leeds, 28th July 2012

Leeds City women were very unlucky not to win the home match, finishing 2nd to Reading by just three points and ending up 3rd in the league behind Reading and Notts, with the top two being promoted.

We placed top three in 22 out of the 36 events, with the only gaps being in the pole vault, steeple chase and B 400m hurdles.

Naana Adusei ran close to her season’s best in the 100m, finishing 2nd in the A event with 13.18s and had a fine win the B 200m, clocking 27.3s.

In the B 100m, India Wilson was 5th in a very close finish with 13.52s and gained valuable points in the B hammer with 3.49m in 6th place.

Georgia Yearby was 2nd in the A 200m, not far off her season’s best with 26.0s and placed 3rd in the A 400m with a fine 58.74s.

In the 800m, Claire Duck had a fine win in the A, with a season’s best 2.12.51, moving her up to 13th on the club rankings list and did the middle distance double, taking the A 1500m in a comfortable 4.39.71.

Sheryl Punter was disappointed with her B string 800m performance, finishing 3rd in 2.30.97, but will have been pleased to pick up good points in the B discus, with a pb 17.25m in 6th.

Katy Parry won, as Leeds City dominated the 3000m, taking the A string in impressive style with a fine 10.05.30, Emily Birchall scoring an excellent B string 1500m / 3000m double, setting a pb in the former with 4.50.50 and running just outside her season’s best in the latter, with 10.12.49.

Marie Dobson took an easy B string 400m win in 60.91s, was close to her season’s best when finishing 4th in the A 400m hurdles with 65.90s and threw 18.39m in the javelin, for B string 5th place.

In the A 100m hurdles, Katy Marchant was a convincing winner in 14.66s and in the B, Jenny Lumley, after a good start, had problems with her stride pattern near the end of the race, finishing 3rd in 17.59s.

Katy had a good battle in the A javelin with Belgrave’s Jodie Favell, winning with a fine throw of 36.68m and notched up three wins with 5.29m in the A long jump, Rosie Mackay finishing 4th in a very close B string event with 4.71m.

In her speciality, the triple jump, Rosie won the A event with 10.69m, Caroline Park taking 4th place in the B with 8.60m.

With some good jumpers in the field, Jenny and Caroline were 3rd in the A and 2nd in the B string high jump, with 1.60m and 1.50m respectively.

Alice Simpson was close to her season’s best in the A discus, winning with 36.29m and will have been disappointed with 47.80m in the A hammer, finishing 3rd.

In the shot, Alice has been in the 11.50 to 12m range this season and placed 2nd in the A, with a putt of 11.53m, Jenny, beaten in the B, by just 2cm with 10.24m.

Things were going well in the 4 x 100m relay, with India, Jenny and Rosie getting the baton to Naana, but on the last leg, Naana suffered a hamstring injury after about 60m, valiantly carrying on in obvious discomfort, to cross the line 5th in 54.0s.

In a great finale to the day, the 4 x 400m relay team of Georgia, Marie, Sheryl and Katy, had a fine win in 4.02.83 to go 8th on the club all time list.

With the likes of Hannah Ukandu, Melody Peterson, Amena Jeffries and Grace Coburn available next season to boost the squad, we should, with a bit of luck be in the hunt for promotion to Division 2.
