West Yorks XC Lge, Thornes Park 05/12/10

Football and Rugby may have been cancelled throughout the county but the Cross Country went ahead and it was a beautiful morning. The sun was shining, the snow glistened, children were sledging in the park and the organisers had modified the course. LCAC had a good turn out as usual and ran well even though the snow and ice was plentiful under foot.
U13 Girls race – We only had Laura Benson who improved on her previous races and came home 33rd in 16.15 she was pleased that she had managed to complete all four races.
U13 Boys race. Another youngster who managed to run on the difficult and icy course with few problems was Joe Plater who ran a good race coming 11th in 16.16.
U15 Girls raceGemma Keir ran a wonderful race coming home in 1st place in 15.08, she was followed by Nicola Sawyer in 17th and unfortunately their team mate Grace Coburn due to an ongoing injury was unable to finish the course.
U15 Boys race – Luke Cooper was the front runner coming 9th in 15.58 he was followed by Keiran Savage who ran a good race coming 20th and Jack Allison who gave it his all coming a close 25th.
U17 Men’s race – Gordon Benson came 1st in 19.03 followed by Elliot Todd in 7th after he was ‘spiked’ in the early part of the race.
Senior Women’s Race – We had a good turn out by our Ladies in this race with Alex Gostling(V35) coming in 6th followed by Kirsteen Young in 7th, Sarah Whitley 14th, Sophie Lovell 15th, Rachael Dyson 17th and Ruth Wilcock (V35) in 25th.
Senior Men’s RaceSimon Deakin had a great race coming second and only 4 seconds behind Andy Pearson the league winner, Martin Hilton came in 4th with Michael Wood, Mike Burrett and Adam Osborne following through in 8th, 9th and 10th. Gavin Chatterton 13th, Sam Bucknall 16th and James Smith 19th all showed the rest of the County how strong a presence LCAC has. Chris Wright, Peter Branney, Ben Dyson, Martin Farran, Phil Townsend, Robert Torch, Robert Gatenby and John Mace all ran well especially under the conditions.
