Yorkshire Cross Country Championships 7th Jan 2012 Thornes Park

A cold and very blustery day at Thrones Park for the Yorkshire Championships. After wrestling with the tent and roping in some of the Skyrack team to help we were good to go!

The first of the juniors to run was Billy Dawson in the under 13 boys. He was in great form on the day putting on an amazing show and finishing in a spectacular 6th place in a time of 10.34.

Next up was the under 15 girls and the lovely Laura Benson, another solid run from Laura to see her placed 47th in 18.09.

On to the under 15 boys- we even managed to put in a team for this age group! First to come home was Kieran Savage in 7th place in 15.49, another bad start left Kieran with a lot of ground to make up so a good result for him. Kieran was closely followed in by Dominic Owens, back on great form after various illness and injury he managed to come in 9th place in 15.59. Next to cross the finish line was Jack Allison, after falling over and sustaining a lovely spike wound on the majority of his left leg he got back up and soldiered on battling to the finish line to finish in 21st place in 17.02. Although the boys thought a much better version of events was that it was a tactical take down by the opposition. Bless their over active imaginations!  And last but by no means least was Ben Tootle in 46th place and a time of 18.35. Ben worked hard throughout the race and increased his position by 6 places, most of this was on the final leg of the race running into the wind! A great effort by all four boys got us a third place in the team event, well done!

And the last of the juniors, the under 17 men was another solo effort, Elliot Holt with his debut race. Elliot is new to running and has only previously competed in one 800m race! He doubted he would finish and had little faith in his abilities before the race so what a shock it was to see him power round the course and finish in 29th place in 23.33. I hope this will be the first of many races for Elliot as next year he will have some team mates when the under 15’s move up to join him!

A splendid effort by all who attended, well done!
